Stockholm-based Tandem Health has raised $100 million to expand its clinical AI platform across Europe, as the company moves beyond automating medical documentation towards software intended to sit across a larger share of the clinical and administrative workflow.
The Series B was led by the Scaleup Europe Fund managed by EQT, with existing investors Kinnevik, Northzone, Amino Collective, and Visionaries also participating. The round follows Tandem’s $50 million Series A in 2025 and takes its total funding to about $160 million, giving the three-year-old company substantial capital to pursue healthcare organisations across a European market fragmented by national systems, languages, procurement models, and medical regulation.
Tandem says its software is already used by more than 10,000 care organisations across 14 European markets, including Ramsay Santé and Capio as well as NHS clinicians in the UK. Its current products cover medical documentation, coding, clinical decision support, referrals, and patient communications, while integrations with more than 130 electronic medical record systems are intended to let clinicians use the technology without replacing their existing core systems.

From AI scribe to workflow platform
Clinical documentation has become one of the clearest early markets for generative AI because it combines a large volume of repetitive administrative work with information already generated during a consultation. Systems can listen to an encounter, prepare a structured note, and leave the clinician to review and approve the output, potentially shifting time away from typing without asking software to make the final medical judgement.
Tandem is now extending that foothold into a wider set of activities, with coding and clinical decision support already available and an ambition to build what it describes as an “AI-native clinic operating system”. That would move the product closer to patient flows, scheduling, communications, and task execution, where technical integration and clinical governance become more complicated because the system can influence what happens before and after the consultation rather than merely documenting it.
The company’s European focus gives it a useful point of differentiation, although it also creates operational complexity. Healthcare systems across the continent use different reimbursement models, medical-record platforms, coding frameworks, languages, and procurement processes, while some clinical AI functions fall within medical-device regulation and require formal conformity assessment rather than an ordinary software rollout.
Tandem says its AI Scribe, Coding Assistant, and Clinical Decision Support products are Class IIa medical devices under the EU Medical Device Regulation, while its clinical decision-support product provides source-linked answers based on medical guidelines. The company also says patient data is hosted within Microsoft’s Azure EU environment, is not used to train AI models, and requires human review before information enters the medical record.
Administrative relief has to survive real deployment
The funding arrives while European health systems face a labour constraint that technology can ease but cannot remove. EQT cited World Health Organization estimates that Europe was short of around 1.6 million health and social-care workers in 2024, with the gap expected to reach 4 million by 2030, making administrative productivity an operational issue rather than a convenience feature.
Tandem says clinicians using its technology spend close to 30 per cent less time on administration and report lower stress and higher job satisfaction. Those figures support the case for clinical documentation as an adoption entry point, although wider deployment will depend on whether improvements survive outside early adopter organisations and whether health systems can measure benefits through capacity, waiting times, staff retention, or cost rather than simply counting generated notes.
As the product moves further into clinical workflows, procurement scrutiny is also likely to increase. A tool that drafts a note can be evaluated comparatively narrowly, whereas software involved in coding, clinical recommendations, triage, scheduling, or task execution touches more systems and creates more dependencies around safety, auditability, liability, and organisational process.
Scaleup Europe Fund’s involvement adds another dimension because the fund was created to provide larger pools of European growth capital to technology companies that might otherwise look elsewhere as they scale. Tandem is its first healthcare AI investment, combining two recurring European technology questions: whether regulated sectors can become an advantage for domestic software companies, and whether those companies can secure enough capital to expand before larger US competitors establish the market.
Tandem has already demonstrated that a clinical AI product can cross several European borders, but becoming infrastructure for the clinic is a more demanding proposition than becoming an assistant used inside it. Its next phase will test whether integrations, certifications, and clinician-led development are enough to turn a rapidly adopted productivity tool into software healthcare organisations are prepared to embed more deeply into everyday service delivery.
